Hurzeler hopes Yankuba Minteh returns from head injury
Texas-born Hurzeler holds German, Swiss and American citizenship but has played for clubs on the south coast of England at home.
"It was a really good, intense performance," Hurzeler said of last week's 3-0 win over Everton.
"We struggled at points but then we tried to control the game, had good chances and eventually went 1-0 up, kept a clean sheet and showed a good attitude, like courage."
Hurzeler's biggest problem is dealing with the injury disappointment of new signing Yankuba Minteh, who caused problems for Everton before they had him taken off the pitch against his will in the first half.
"He is disappointed but ultimately we are disappointed by the players and we cannot take any risks. The Seagulls coach said, the players' health is more important and we have to take responsibility for that."
"We have to keep watching him and see how he reacts. I am sure he will be back next week. He has made a big impact. But I judge the attackers on their play without the ball."

'It is important to be humble'
Hurzeler, aged 31 years and 173 days, became the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history after moving from Saint Pauli in the off-season to replace Roberto de Zerbi.
The German manager is the first manager born since the Premier League began in 1992 and is seven years younger than Brighton midfielder James Milner.
Despite being young compared to his Premier League teammates, Herselaer made a great start as 10-man Everton were eliminated at Goodison Park.
Goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra saw Brighton through, while Everton were shown a red card by Ashley Young.
"I'm very happy. It's a good start. But there's nothing else to it. And it's important to stay humble after that," Herselaer said.
"It's a great feeling. But I don't want to talk about myself. The players deserve it. They've worked so hard in pre-season. And I'm so proud of them."
