United boss wonโt be drawn on Sanchoโs future
Ten Hag was noncommittal on the status of Jadon Sancho, who returned to United last month after a very public spat with Ten Hag last year which led to him finishing the 2023-24 season with Borussia Dortmund. Sancho did not feature in Ten Hagโs squad against Fulham.
โWe will see. You need them all [the players] throughout the season because it is survival of the fittest,โ Ten Hag said.
โWe have to manage it, the attitude of the players is very important, sometimes they will be disappointed they are not in the starting XI but they have to deal with it, you win as a squad.
โThe prizes are decided next May and until then we need all the players in the squad and highly motivated, that is not an expectation, that is a demand on the squad. The team is always more important than any individual.โ

Ten Hag has high hopes for Zirkzee
Zirkzee, signed by United from Bologna last month, came off the bench to score their lone goal in a 1-0 win over Fulham in Unitedโs Premier League opener last Friday, displaying the nimble dribbling skills that the 1.93m (6 foot 4) Dutchman is known for.
โVery pleasing that a player who is a striker scores his first goal in his first game,โ Ten Hag told reporters on Thursday. โThat will give him confidence, weโre very pleased that itโs happened.
โI give the comparison last year with Rasmus Hojlund that when he scored against Brighton and the VAR looked, five minutes later they came to the conclusion the ball crossed the line in the assist and he had to wait three months for his first Premier League goal,โ Ten Hag added.
โIt helps absolutely [Zirkzee] scoring his first goal, it gives him confidence and gives us confidence as a team. Very good progress.โ

Brighton make record signing
Brighton signed forward Georginio Rutter from Championship side Leeds United on a five-year contract on Monday.
While the financial details were not disclosed, English media reported the Premier League side had paid a club record transfer fee of 40 million pounds ($51m) for the 22-year-old Frenchman.
Rutter joined Leeds from German side Hoffenheim in 2023 in a then-club record deal worth up to 36 million pounds ($46m). He made 66 appearances and scored eight goals over an 18-month spell at the club.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler said Rutter would excite the fans.
โGeorginio is a player who has the capabilities to get fans off their seats and really showed what he can do in English football with Leeds last season โ but I have known about him since he played in Germany for Hoffenheim,โ he said in a statement.

Hurzeler hopes Yankuba Minteh will return after head injury
Texas-born Hurzeler holds German, Swiss and American citizenship, but he already appears at home with the club from Englandโs south coast.
โIt was a good result, very intense,โ Hurzeler said of last weekโs 3-0 win over Everton.
โIn some moments we suffered but after a time we tried to control the game, had good chances, then went 1-0 up. In the end the clean sheet was important and we showed attitude and character.โ
Hurzelerโs biggest issue was handling the disappointment of an injury to new signing Yankuba Minteh, who was causing Everton problems before a bang to the head forced him off in the first half, against his wishes.
โHe was disappointed but in the end we are disappointed for the player and canโt take any risks, the health of the player is more important and we were responsible for that,โ the Seagulls boss said.
โWe have to keep looking at him and how he reacts. I am confident he will be back next week. He had a great impact but I judge my offensive players on how they work off the ball.โ

โItโs important to stay humbleโ
Aged 31 years and 173 days, Hurzeler is the youngest permanent boss in Premier League history following his arrival from St Pauli to replace Roberto De Zerbi in the close season.
The German is the first manager to be born after the Premier League started in 1992 and is seven years younger than Brighton midfielder James Milner.
Despite his tender years compared with his Premier League peers, Hurzeler made a flying start as 10-man Everton were brushed aside at Goodison Park.
Goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra fired Brighton, while Everton were hampered by Ashley Youngโs red card.
โIโm very happy, itโs a good start but nothing more and itโs important to stay humble after this,โ Hurzeler said.
โItโs a very good feeling but I donโt want to talk about myself, the players deserved this. They worked hard in preseason and Iโm very proud of them.โ

Early United team news
United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that central defender Victor Lindelof will be unavailable as he continues to recover from a toe injury. United are also without injured left backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia and striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Summer signing Leny Yoro is likely to be absent for another two months due to a broken metatarsal.
New signing Matthijs de Ligt may come into the centre of defence at the expense of Harry Maguire. Zirkzee could be rewarded with a start after scoring the winning goal against Fulham after coming on as a sub.
Manchester Unitedโs possible starting XI:
Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Mainoo; Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho; Zirkzee

United face stiff challenge at Brighton
Manchester Unitedโs 1-0 win over Fulham on the opening night of the season could be read one of two ways.
After finishing eighth in a torrid campaign last season, Erik ten Hagโs men badly needed a winning start as a sign that a new era off the field at Old Trafford will be accompanied by an improvement on the pitch.
The fact new signing Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to score the winner helped raise the belief United have sufficiently strengthened to at least threaten the top four with defenders Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt also arriving in the transfer window.
Yet, the ease with which Fulham created chances was eerily reminiscent of how United were consistently cut open last season.
A truer test of Unitedโs credentials comes at the Amex on Saturday against a Brighton side themselves flying high after a 3-0 win at Everton.
The youngest ever manager in the Premier League, Fabian Hurzeler, 31, takes charge of his first home match for the Seagulls, who have Kaoru Mitoma back fit and could hand a debut to new 40 million-pound ($52m) signing Georginio Rutter.
